This time last year few outside of Lovejoy High School knew about Cameron Solomon.
But things have drastically changed for the 6-foot-4 senior, who is not only getting attention from opposing defenses, but major universities as well.
“He’s a late bloomer,” coach Rick Francis said. “Starting out this year he came out under the radar, but last summer that light started to come on in terms of the way he approached the game.”
And the light has been on since for Solomon, who was averaging 24 points at press time. Because of his versatility, Solomon has given the opposition fits.
His best game of the season, a 41-point outburst against Pebblebrook was special for the entire team since it snapped a seven-game losing streak while triggering a six consecutive wins at deadline.
“That was one of the best games I’ve seen from any player I’ve coached,” said Francis, who still seemed to be in awe over the performance. “That day he was in the zone.”
Solomon has at least four games left this season to continue to impress top programs such as Auburn, Georgia, Clemson and Cincinnati.
“Whoever gets Cameron is getting someone who will represent the university in a positive light,” said Francis of the combo guard who owns a 3.1 GPA.
